The Chronicle of Philanthropy is an independent organization that provides nonprofits and foundations with trustworthy information, actionable insights, analysis, and training, all with the goal of helping sector professionals advance their critical missions. We understand how these organizations can excel because it has been covering the field for nearly four decades — and because we are a nonprofit ourself. In 2023, the Chronicle spun off from the for-profit Chronicle of Higher Education to better enable us to expand our offerings for the sector.

Each year, nearly 350,000 nonprofit professionals, foundation executives, board members, fundraisers, donors, and others working to advance the common good rely on the Chronicle’s indispensable information and practical advice. What’s more, the Chronicle is dedicated to helping professionals find jobs that can advance their careers and assisting nonprofits and foundations in their search for talent. We also provide stipends and yearlong coaching to local news organizations so they can learn more about nonprofits and philanthropy and how to report valuable in-depth articles about these organizations for their audiences.

Beyond those efforts, a key part of our mission is to help the public better understand the crucial role the social sector plays in communities, across the nation, and around the world. Through our partnership with the Associated Press, we distribute articles to the news service’s members worldwide.
